Egremont is a small town in the county of Cumbria, England, situated on the western edge of the Lake District National Park. It is located approximately 5 miles south of Whitehaven and 10 miles north of the town of Gosforth. Egremont has a rich history, with evidence of human settlement in the area dating back to the Bronze Age. The town was also an important center for the iron industry during the Industrial Revolution and was home to several iron mines and furnaces. Today, Egremont is a quiet market town with a population of around 8,000 people. It is known for its annual Crab Fair, which has been held for over 750 years and features a range of traditional events, including gurning (making faces) and the World Championship of Cumberland Wrestling. The town is also home to a number of historic buildings and landmarks, including Egremont Castle, which dates back to the 12th century, and St. Mary and St. Michael's Church, which was built in the 19th century and features stained-glass windows designed by William Morris.
