Local Info

Redcar is a seaside town located on the Yorkshire Coast in the North East of England, within the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire and the unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland. Situated east of Middlesbrough and the mouth of the River Tees, it's known for its long, sandy beach and seafront promenade. Redcar has been a popular seaside destination since the arrival of the railway in 1846, attracting visitors with its extensive sandy beach, traditional amusements, and colourful beach huts. Historically, Redcar was a significant centre for the iron and steel industry, with a large steelworks that played a role in constructing famous structures like the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Tyne Bridge. While the large steel plant closed in 2015, its industrial legacy remains a part of the town's identity.Redcar Beacon: An iconic 80-foot tall landmark on the seafront offering panoramic views.Redcar had a population of approximately 36,000 people (as of data around 2021). It sits on a low-lying site by the sea, with its name potentially deriving from "Red Rock" or "marshland." The surrounding Redcar and Cleveland borough extends into the North York Moors National Park, offering a varied landscape of coast, moors, and hills.
